Adoption

One of the greatest joys of my practice is creating a family through adoption. As an adoptive parent myself, I have personally experienced the anxiety and anticipation that accompanies the process. While I can't guarantee a stress-free experience, I can promise to work hard to make the process go as smoothly and quickly as possible.

The adoption process is basically an administrative proceeding. In most cases, you will not be required to appear in court for a formal hearing. The process requires the filing of a petition for adoption, substantial information regarding the adoptive parents as as birth parents, and completion of a pre-placement assessment by a licensed agency. If the birth parents do not consent to the adoption, a separate termination of parental rights proceeding may be required.
